Located on the first floor of the Conference centre the Surtees Suite is the original function suite of the hotel. A large rectangular room with windows down one side overlooking the grounds and internally with pillars down both sides of the room. Complete with a private bar and lounge area at the rear of the room. Decorated in cream and burgundy colours the Surtees suite has a main staircase. Part of the original house the Great hall dates back to 1744 and retains a very traditional style. With polished wooden floors and oak wood panelling around the hall, it has very much a medieval feel. Two grand stone working fire places provide a focal point in the hall and in winter months offer a warming atmosphere when the fires are lit. Large double doors can be opened to make access to the Blue room lounge area. In addition the Great hall is adjacent to a private baronial lounge and bar area which makes it ideal for for drinks receptions or coffee breaks. From the bar area, double doors lead out to a private knott garden which is perfect during summer months for delegates taking in some fresh air during break times or for private bbqs (access to the knott garden is closed at 10.00pm)
